K. D. Hafley paints the eyes of her subjects so realistically they seem to look back at you from the canvas.  AEyes so real@ is an accolade commonly given by those who view her work.  Primarily using acrylic paint, Ms. Hafley pain-stakingly achieves the exquisite detail needed to make her paintings so realistic the subjects seem ready to step, spring or fly from the canvas.  Ms. Hafley has built on the formal education in art she received from the prestigious School of the Art Institute in Chicago (BFA, 1990) and carefully honed her skills and techniques so that she now produces some of the finest traditional, yet nonetheless contemporary paintings of people and animals being done today.   Her unique style is built around her artistic vision -  to have the focus of each painting be the subject itself - human or animal - and not the background which she usually leaves simple and uncluttered.

Since she was a child growing up in Austin, Texas, Ms. Hafley has known she wanted to be an artist.  Although she received her formal education in Chicago and lived both there and in San Diego, California, for a number of years, Ms. Hafley returned to both Texas and her primary ambition - to be an artist - ten years ago.  For awhile she worked with animals, which are her other love, but in 2007 decided to become a full-time, professional artist and follow her creative vision.

Today, Ms. Hafley works primarily out of her studio in McKinney, Texas, and devotes all of her non-personal time to painting.   She produces works for sale in galleries and shows, as well as commission paintings, including portraits of both people and animals.
